HOST SCHOOL FAITH SWEPT NCAA-SOUTH
DAY ONE GAMES.
Host First Asia Institute of Technology and
Humanities (FAITH) swept all its games during the opening day of
the National Collegiate Athletic Association-South (NCAA-SOUTH).
FAITH dominated San Pablo Colleges (SPC) in the
Men’s Volleyball game, scoring a three-set win 25-14, 25-12, 25-16.
In the Boys’ Basketball Competition, FAITH
Bravehearts coasted to a big win over University of Batangas (UB)
Brahmans, 96-53.
Gian Atienza led the Bravehearts with his 26
points, 4 rebounds, 3 Assists and 4 steals while Adriel Nichol
Malabanan and team skipper Oliver Neal Arim contributed 18 and 14
respectively.
On the other hand, a three pointer of Reygie
Debulcos gave the Bravehearts a two-point lead against the newbie
UB Brahmans twenty seconds remaining in the overtime period. They
held on to the lead with their tough defense to close out the game
at 77-75.
“The first game for the men’s basketball seemed
like a championship game already. It was a heart-pounding game. UB
really gave it their all but FAITH did not give up until the very
last second, snatching the first win for the men’s basketball this
season,” said Lito Arim, MANCOM Chair of the NCAA-SOUTH Season 12
and Head of FAITH Sports Development Office.
Center Pedrian Rutor and Forward Marvin Javier
spearheaded the bravehearts with their double-double production of
12 points and 12 rebounds and 10 points and 12 rebounds
respectively while Debulcos contributed 10 points.
Meanwhile, Lyceum of the Philippines-Batangas won
its own Men’s Volleyball match against De La Salle Lipa in three
sets, 25-20, 25-13, 25-19.
All the games for the first day were held at the
FAITH campus, after the very colorful opening rites by the host
school, complete with the HUMAN LCD performance by its High School
department which was featured by the major TV networks and an
airplane which showered confetti as the basketball team captains of
the ten member schools light the NCAA-South symbolic torch.
PSC Commissioner Akiko Thomson and PCCL Chair
Reynaldo Gamboa graced the opening rites.
